A Letter from Rosaria
Dear Reader,
I’m so excited to share with you the Aurelian Cycle, available for the first time in the UK and Commonwealth countries with DK Children’s. This trilogy was a ten-year labour of love into which I threw everything I liked and looked for in the books I’d grown up loving to read.
In the pages of Fireborne and its sequels, Flamefall and Furysong, you’ll find a revolutionary regime inspired by Plato’s Republic—with dragons. In the world of Callipolis, dragons are both fiercely loyal companions and weapons of mass destruction. They are ridden by the chosen few. One of them is Lee, a deposed aristocrat wrestling with guilt over his family’s past. Another is Annie, a former peasant who can’t seem to shake her impostor syndrome. Their business is not starting a revolution so much as picking up the pieces after one. Their relationship might best be described as born enemies to childhood friends to teenage rivals to… well, I’ll leave that for you to find out.
This is a story that asks its characters to choose the lesser of two evils—with dragonfire. Their world is steeped in its own epic poetry that I cribbed from my favourite passages in the Iliad, the Aeneid, and Antigone. In the sequels, you will meet two additional point-of-view characters whose pairing hearkens to Achilles and Patroclus. There will be air battles on dragonback inspired by the Blitz; military balls; and coups. Characters will make sacrifices. Some will end happily ever after, others bittersweetly.
If this sounds like your cup of tea, then I can’t wait for you to enjoy the Aurelian Cycle! And if you like what you read, please share with your customers, family, friends, and followers. I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I did the writing of it.
Sincerely,
Rosaria Munda
